  Item: "Pool Rules" signage incorrectly posted. Rules sign shall include No diving in shallow end, No horseplay, and No running on deck. Post conspicuously at a minimum of 2 locations within the swimming pool enclosure.

  Item: Equipment for continuous feed of chlorine, a chlorine compound or a bromine compound and/or equipment for the continuous feed of a chemical for pH adjustment to the swimming pool / spa shall be provided and shall be fully operational
  Comment: Current chlorine controller is dated and is not fully operational. Many readings are out of acceptable range. Close pool every time this happens. CPO has manually added chlorine this year- not best practice- would not happen if the controller was fully operational. Highly recommend replacement.

  Item: A swimming pool facility shall have a first-aid kit. Where lifeguards are not provided, the first-aid kit shall be prominently mounted in the swimming pool enclosure, or a sign stating its location shall be posted near the swimming pool.

  Item: Swimming pools where lifeguards are not provided shall have a designated emergency phone and shall be available to users of swimming pools when the swimming pool is open. When the telephone is not within the confines of the swimming pool, the location of the emergency telephone shall be posted in a conspicuous place within the swimming pool enclosure. Instructions for emergency use of the telephone, and the address of the facility shall be posted near the telephone.
  Comment: Add sign in pool area stating where emergency phone is located.

  Item: A fence, wall, or other means of enclosure shall have no openings that would allow the passage of a 4-inch sphere, and shall not be easily climbable by toddlers.
  Comment: Be sure fence is secured to each pole eliminating gaps > 4". Also, extension cords shall not be hung on fence or in enclosed pool area.

  Comment: Filter room shall have exhaust fan that is operational and discharges outside of the pool area

  Item: The door of all rooms that store chemical shall be secured in an open position whenever the room is occupied and locked closed when the room is not occcupied.
  Comment: All doors to chemical storage areas shall be locked when not in use. Either change the door handle or add a lock to the door that is currently unlockable

  Item: Pool ladders, ramps, handrails, and grab rails shall be securely anchored.
  Comment: Tighten handrail on the east side of the shallow water

  Item: When stairs are provided for entry into a swimming pool, a stripe at least 1 inch wide of a color contrasting with the step surface and with the swimming pool floor shall be marked at the top front edge of each tread. The stripe shall be slip-resistant.
  Comment: Repaint stripe on shallow water enterance before opening next year or at next drain, whichever comes first

These items must be corrected as soon as possible in order to comply with the Iowa Department of Public Health Swimming Pool and Spa Rules. A letter regarding the actions which will be taken in order to correct all deficiencies must be submitted within 30 days to this office. If for any reason you take issue with any of the items cited regarding swimming pool rules, a variance can be requested by following the instructions in the Iowa Department of Public Health Swimming Pools manual, amended July 8th, 2009, page 57, section 641-15.7 (135I). Variance requests regarding spa rules must be made in compliance with the instructions in the Iowa Department of Public Health Spa manual, revised July 8th, 2009, page 32, section 641-15.7 (135I).
