  Item: Depth Markers shall be located at 1-ft depth intervals, but not more than 25 ft. apart measured between the centers of the depth markers around the area of a swimming pool which has a water depth of 5 ft. or less

  Item: Pool ladders, ramps, handrails, and grab rails shall be securely anchored.
  Comment: Ladders shall be securely anchored
   
3) Structure/Diving Pool: 15.4(4)c(8) 14
  Item: Handrails shall be provided at all steps and ladders leading to diving boards which are more than 32 inches above the deck.
  Comment: The shallow diving boards shall have handrails.
   
4) Structure/Diving Pool: 15.4(4)c(9) 14
  Item: A platform or diving board that is 32 inches or more above the swimming pool deck shall have a guardrail on both sides. The guardrails shall be at least 36 inches high and shall extend to the edge of the deck. The guardrails shall have at least one horizontal mid-bar.
  Comment: Guardrails shall be on the shallow diving boards. You may ask for a variance to have them shorter than to the deck, if you believe it is a safety issue within the starting blocks on the sides of them. Please cc me on that variance requests to IDPH.

These items must be corrected as soon as possible in order to comply with the Iowa Department of Public Health Swimming Pool and Spa Rules. A letter regarding the actions which will be taken in order to correct all deficiencies must be submitted within 30 days to this office. If for any reason you take issue with any of the items cited regarding swimming pool rules, a variance can be requested by following the instructions in the Iowa Department of Public Health Swimming Pools manual, amended July 8th, 2009, page 57, section 641-15.7 (135I). Variance requests regarding spa rules must be made in compliance with the instructions in the Iowa Department of Public Health Spa manual, revised July 8th, 2009, page 32, section 641-15.7 (135I).
